In conversations with detailing studio owners and people who have just bought a new car, one question comes up time and time again: what exactly is a ceramic coating for? What benefits does it offer?

The advantages of this type of vehicle protection are numerous. However, I’ve decided to focus on the four most important aspects that should convince even the biggest sceptics to take care of their cars and keep them in the best possible condition for years to come.

But first… what exactly is a ceramic coating? A ceramic coating is an invisible protective layer that, once cured, enhances the properties of the surface it is applied to. Simple, right? Absolutely! Perhaps we can finally put claims about “hyperspatial intergalactic 3D structures” to rest.

Ceramic coatings are often compared to car waxes. Although their chemical compositions, application methods, and properties differ significantly, both types of products serve a similar purpose: protecting the paintwork, keeping the car looking great, and making it easier to clean.

Now that we have a basic understanding of what a ceramic coating is, let’s move on to the four key reasons why it’s worth protecting your car with these products.

Eco-Friendly Water-Based Paints

The global trend towards reducing volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions has triggered a major revolution in the automotive paint industry. Water-based products have been steadily gaining a larger share of the market for years. While they provide excellent corrosion protection and are more flexible than solvent-based paints, they also tend to be very soft and often thin. Many new Japanese cars, for example, have paint thickness readings below 100 microns.

A thin, soft layer of unprotected paint is a recipe for countless micro-scratches — sometimes seemingly caused by nothing more than looking at the car the wrong way — and rapid colour deterioration.

Ceramic coatings not only effectively protect against oxidation but also help reduce the formation of micro-scratches, such as those that can occur when drying the car.

Easier Car Washing

Struggling to remove insects after a long drive? Does washing your car at a local self-service car wash fail to deliver the desired results?

Ceramic coatings effectively reduce the adhesion of dirt to the surface, helping your car stay clean for longer. Of course, despite the impressive claims often seen in YouTube ads, protected cars will still get dirty. However, removing that dirt becomes much easier.

This is particularly noticeable when removing brake dust and other road contaminants from your wheels. With a ceramic coating, you may sometimes be able to remove them without using any cleaning chemicals at all!

Outstanding Appearance

Who doesn’t love their car? Perhaps those whose rides look like they’ve just completed a record-breaking Paris–Dakar rally. A clean car with an additional protective layer that significantly enhances the paintwork’s gloss and brings out its depth is a must-have for every automotive enthusiast.

Reducing Depreciation Over Time

The points discussed above should help clarify the benefits of ceramic coatings. We know that our car will be effectively protected against oxidation and bird droppings, will be easier and more enjoyable to clean, and will maintain its outstanding appearance. But now it’s time for the most important argument of all: your wallet.

The vast majority of our partners apply ceramic coatings to new cars or vehicles that are no more than two to three years old. These cars are particularly susceptible to significant depreciation. For example, a car purchased from a dealership for around PLN 200,000 may be worth only about PLN 100,000 after three years — often when the lease ends. Even among cars with similar specifications and engine options, prices can range from PLN 90,000 to as much as PLN 110,000–115,000.

What determines these differences? Exterior appearance and technical condition.

The value your car retains depends in part on the decisions you make after purchasing it. Grab a calculator, browse used-car listing websites, and check the prices of a few-year-old models similar to yours. Compare the price ranges and work out whether protecting your car at a professional detailing studio is really as expensive as it might seem.

Of course, ceramic coatings offer many other benefits, including improved safety thanks to a hydrophobic glass coating that acts as an invisible wiper, or the chance to show off your stunning-looking car to your envious friends! 😉 However, I’ve focused on the most important benefits that can be measured and matter most to the majority of car owners.
